单选题Stress is becoming an increasingly common feature of the workplace. Stress is a highly individual reaction, which varies considerably from person to person, and it is difficult for some employees to avoid it. Undoubtedly, changes in working conditions have led to greater pressure at work at all levels. However, stress in itself is not harmful. Everyone needs a certain level of stress to enable him or her to feel motivated and to perform effectively. A complete absence of stress can be as damaging as overstress, since it can make people lose interest in their work, and even lead to depression. The difficulties occur when the amount of stress rises above a level which is healthy for a particular individual. While it may not always be possible to prevent stress, there are a number of ways in which it can be controlled. The first thing that the trainees learn is how to manage their time effectively. This involves, first of all, setting realistic goals for both the short and long term. The trainees are also reminded that when they are under pressure the less important items should be left. The trainees are encouraged to avoid being defensive, but at the same time they are advised not to be afraid of saying 'no'. They are asked to give reasons only if necessary. They learn, for example, to remind themselves that nothing terrible happens when a demand is refused or a deadline missed. Life goes on.

单选题The food we eat seems to have profound effects on our health. Although science has made enormous steps in making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of all human illnesses are related to diet and forty percent of cancer is related to the diet as well, especially cancer of the colon. Different cultures are inclined to catch certain illnesses because of the food that is characteristic(典型) in these cultures. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, government researchers realized that nitrates (硝酸盐) and nitrites, commonly used to preserve color in meats, and other food additives(添加剂) , caused cancer. Yet, these carcinogenic (致癌的) additives remain in our food, and it becomes more difficult all the time to know which things on the packaging labels of processed food are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin(青霉素) to beef and poultry and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of treated cows. Sometimes similar drugs are given to animals not for medicinal purposes, but for financial reasons. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to obtain a higher price on the market. Although the Food and Drug Administration has tried repeatedly to control these procedures, the practices continue.

单选题It's simply amazing what a cell phone can do these days. Teenagers know this better than anyone. They'll tell you their super-thin phones are really pocket-sized entertainment systems. They can listen to music, watch music videos, and play computer games. They can take photos and send text messages to their friends. Businesspeople know this, too. For them, cell phones are really high-tech business tools. They can review business documents and read e-mail. They can check their appointment calendar and get directions to a client's office. So what features do cell phones have these days? That depends on the model, of course. But the standard features include a digital camera, MP3 player and PDA. Newer models also have video-recording capacity. Perhaps most importantly, some phones offer wireless(无线) Internet access. That means you can use your phone to read and send e-mail and browse the Web. You can download music, games and video files. You can even watch short "made-for-phone" dramas.
