问答题1. Read carefully the following excerpt on standardized test argument in the USA, and then write your response in NO LESS THAN 200 words, in which you should: ● summarize the main message of the excerpt, and then ● comment on whether universities should use standardized tests in enrolling. You should support yourself with in formation from the excerpt. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Should standardized tests be used in the enrollment? The SAT is the most widely used and most heavily researched college admissions test in the country. In combination with other data, such as a student's grade-point average, college application essays, and letters of recommendation, the SAT has proven to be a valid, fair, and reliable data tool for college admissions. All of the available research supports this point. The great majority of our nation's colleges and universities accept the SAT as an integral part of the admissions process, and most that require the submission of the SAT do so because they know they can make better admissions decisions if they have as many data as possible about every student applicant. The SAT was originally conceived as an objective measure to even the differences in curriculum and grading across the country. But objectivity has eroded, while the perceived importance of the test has grown. At Wake Forest University, we saw more costs than benefits to standardized tests. We wanted to signal to prospective students what we really care about: four years of high school success in the most rigorous available curriculum, applied creativity and imagination, and hunger for the opportunity of a Wake Forest education. After careful thought, we made test scores optional—and hoped to enroll students with a broader range of talents, backgrounds, and abilities.

问答题2. We are caught in the conflicts between modern and traditional cultures every day. Will our traditional culture exist forever? The following are the supporters' and opponents' opinions. Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your opinion in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your view on this issue. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. Yes No Even though modem cultures are widely spread nowadays, traditional cultures still continue to dominate. There is no need to worry about whether our traditional culture will be lost. It is all important heritage of the whole human race, which will exist forever. First, traditional festivals remind us of the traditional culture. Our belief in the traditional culture gets ready to revive at any time. Moreover, we have taken active measures to conserve the traditional cultures on decline. Many volunteers have contributed themselves to studying and spreading them. Besides, more and more people have realized the importance of the traditional culture, and they begin to voluntarily protect it. Our culture changes itself to cater to people nowadays. We hold some modern activities to meet the society' needs. Though the appearance of traditional cultures changes, the essence will never change. The information revolution, the development of mass media and the advanced technology have doubtlessly, influenced the traditional culture. People get so used to such a modern society that many traditional things have been neglected and abandoned. Therefore, I believe that the traditional culture will gradually get lost. First, the traditional culture is hindering the development of new science which is beneficial to the whole society. In addition, the government spent a huge sum of money to rebuild or restore the ancient buildings just for commemoration, taking no account of practicability. Lastly, nowadays people prefer the modern science and the advanced technology with the wholesome education system to the ancient ways, which speeds up the loss of the traditional culture.

问答题1. Has the arrival of the Internet done more good than harm? This has been an intensely discussed question for years. The following are the supporters' and opponents' opinions. Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your views on the issue. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to .follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. YES NO The Internet offers millions of people access to information they would not otherwise have had, which is a huge benefit. The Internet has broadened normal people's horizons. The Internet ensures the almost instantaneous delivery of messages and data to any location all over the world. The accessibility of technology also means that you need not to be in any special location like a post office or mail room to send a message. Meanwhile, the Internet has also made it easier to meet new people and keep in touch with friends. The Internet can absolutely help enhance learning. It allows us to conveniently and pro- fessionally do researches, prepare projects, and do many other tasks. Online information has usually not gone through careful checks as published newspaper articles or books. There is a higher risk that some of the facts or quotations from an article online are false. People's privacy is greatly attacked by the Internet. Some sites store information, while some others ask us to fill in information which can be sold to other sites for commercial purposes. Once we post something online, it is almost impossible to erase it from the net. Many people are just addicted to the Internet. They can't stop surfing, and they spend too much time indoors. A sad consequence of the addiction is that they can no longer appreciate good books, or a nice conversation with friends. By failing to take exercise they grow fat and unhealthy.

Student Debts Online lenders that target college students, often offering them loans with illegally high interest, are booming as China's financial sector expands. "Students want to enjoy a high-quality lifestyle, so they may need money to buy devices or take extra courses," said Song Yongjun, head of Xiongdi Hezhong Technology, a company that promotes online lending apps to college students. However, while some students have used credit with no problems, others have fallen into heavy debts that can lead to tragedies. According to a report, a student at Henan Agricultural University committed suicide after accumulating a debt of around 589,000 yuan that he borrowed from 14 different lending platforms using the stolen ID cards of 28 of his classmates. "It's quite easy. You only need to make an IOU," a freshman from Baoding University told the Global Times. At his college's request, he and 10 of his classmates signed an agreement which allowed them to borrow money from a lending platform. He borrowed money several times "for some random needs like buying clothes", getting about 300 yuan each time, and repaid each loan within three months, paying around 10 yuan in interest. Qiu, a junior student from Shandong University of Technology, told the Global Times that lending apps are easy to find as ads have been posted everywhere on his campus since last year. "The market of online lending platforms for college students started last year, when the lending market became more specialized, until small loan services appeared," Song said. However, these new lending platforms have run into some legal issues. "Some students use the identities of their classmates to borrow money, which is illegal," Song said.
