单选题I like collecting (收集) stamps. When I was only a baby, my mother began to collect for me. Of course, she did not let me touch the stamps until I was old enough not to spoil them. I remembered that it was on my fifteenth birthday that she first put them into my hands. They were in four thick books and since then I have added three more, so that now I have a bigger collection than any of my friends.
How do I get my stamps? I have never bought even one stamp from a shop. My father works in a big office. Sometimes he brings me some stamps from many countries of the world. I have friends both here and in other countries. They send me a lot of wonderful stamps every year.
Since I am working for my living, I do not have as much time as before to spend on my stamps. But in the evening, I sometimes bring out the books and enjoy the stamps in them. Each stamp has a story to tell me about far countries and strange people. Stamp collection is a good way to learn history, geography and languages.

Every day some people are killed while
they are crossing the roads. Most of these people are old and children. Old
people are often killed because they can't see or hear very well. Children are
killed because they are not careful. They forget to look and listen before they
cross the roads. A car or a bus can't stop quickly. If a car is
going very fast, it will travel many meters before it stops. Some people don't
always understand this. They think a car can stop in a few meters. It is
difficult to know how fast a car is moving. The only way to cross the roads
safely is to look both ways, right and left. Then if the roads are empty, you
can cross them.

单选题Bees are insects. They live all over the world except where it is very cold . Bees do not like ice and snow. They are the only insects that make food that you and I can eat. We eat their honey and also use their wax for making things. Bees live in a hive. They live in hundreds of little rooms made of wax. It is in these rooms that the queen bee lays her eggs. As each egg hatches out it becomes a larva. This larva lives in a room and is fed by other bees. Every bee does a job without being told. Some make wax, others fan the hive to keep it cool. Then there are the bees that fetch nectar from the flowers. The nectar is turned into honey inside the bee that puts it into room as food for the larva or gives it to another bee. The queen bee is larger than the other bees. There is only one queen in a hive. If other queens are born, they are killed. While she keeps laying eggs, she is looked after by the worker bees.

单选题Dina Borzekowski made a study of a group of third-grade students from six American schools. During a school year, nearly 400 students and their parents were asked to report on whether they had such things as televisions and computers in the home, as well as how often the child used them. The children's language ability was tested(测验) twice over the year. Children who had a television set in the bedroom but did not have a computer at home scored(得分) the lowest, while students without TV in the bedroom but with a computer at home scored the highest. Students who had a television in the bedroom over the school year scored lower than those who had their TV taken away during the same time. "This study suggests that taking TV sets out of children's bedrooms, or not putting them there, may be helpful," said Borzekowski. "While this study does not prove(证明) that bedroom TV was the reason for the lower test scores, it suggests that children shouldn't have TV in their bedrooms. It also suggests that a home computer may help a child's test scores. The best way was having both: no TV in the bedroom and also a home computer to use. /
