Two tragic cases of adults teasing babies have gained notoriety on Chinese social media lately.
At the beginning of this year, a two-year-old boy suffered a brain injury after his uncle coaxed him into drinking some homemade wine in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. And earlier this month, another two-year-old boy died after drinking some wine offered by three friends of his father"s during a party in Sichuan province.
It is clear that Chinese people often express their love for babies through making fun of them or daring them to try something, but they may have to think twice from now on. As the two tragic cases have shown, teasing babies can easily lead to harm.
According to a survey online, half of the respondents have witnessed kids being coaxed into drinking. The survey also shows that the most common way to make fun of babies in China is to tell them "Your mum discarded you", with 38.1% of the respondents having experienced this. Number two is strangers kissing or touching babies, and number three is asking kids "Who do you love, dad or mum?"
Psychologists say Chinese people seldom think about the potential physical and mental harm caused by such improper behavior. In fact, the result can be quite serious, as kids may develop a sense of insecurity or find it difficult to distinguish between right and wrong. It is suggested that Chinese people learn from other cultures and express their love through proper ways.
