单选题As the volcano erupts in Iceland, more and more people are beginning to concern about the damage volcanic eruption brings. Then, let us learn the influence of volcanic eruption together.
We all know that air pollution has an effect on the world"s average air temperature. Scientists declare that volcanic eruption leads to weather changes, which is similar to air pollution. How will volcanic eruption impact on weather? Volcanic eruption throws hundreds of millions tons of ash into the stratosphere. The ash from a volcano spreads in a few days. However, this is not the end. The ash will remain in the air for years. Hereby, all the ash turns incoming solar radiation into space, which cools the earth.
The eruption would affect every level of ecosystem, from worms to primates. The problem is not only the physical destruction of habitat, but also the sulfur gases over the area. The volcanic eruption makes many people homeless who have to search for food and residence everywhere. The movement of the population and refugees may lead to some instability in the region. They may be come one part to damage the environment in face of starvation threat. If the lava pours into lakes, the water will be severely contaminated. The unusual accumulation of carbon dioxide in the lower strata of lake"s basin may even cause explosions.
The volcanic eruption is a huge disaster for human beings. It will cause massive dislocation in the local place. The Iceland volcano is a good example. More than 63,000 flights had been canceled in 23 European countries, which is severe blow on the economy. Travelers had to give up their journeys. Fresh foods get decayed because of delayed transportation. The factories are not able to operate for lack of machinery parts. In other parts of the world, people canceled their flights to and from Europe, according to the Air Transport Association(ATA). This condition has an awful influence on the world economy.
Large quantities of dust and gaseous material will be injected into the upper atmosphere as a result of explosive eruptions. The volcano spurts a kind of glassy material with sharp edges, which is cooled by tiny shards of molten rock. The air is mixed with such material at a microscopic level. As a result, it will contribute to a worldwide rise in deaths of respiratory diseases.

单选题Nearly 2, 000 feet in the air, above where the Mississippi River flows into the Gulf of Mexico, the approaching storm is in full view; millions of gallons of wind-swept crude oil, in streaks that arc not black but orange, red and brown. It's easier to grasp the severity of the crisis unraveling in the Gulf of Mexico when you have an airborne perspective of the oil that is barreling toward the shore. A group of environmentalists, reporters and bayou defenders went up on a small plane for a tour of the coast. "I'll show you the Cajun Bahamas, "the pilot, Lyle Panepinto, said. Minutes later, he pushed the plane from 1, 100 feet to 2, 000 feet above the water, out toward the Chandeleur Islands, between Louisiana and Mississippi. Earlier this week, scientists collected samples of oil from the islands. "It might be no more, when this is over with, " Panepinto said of the islands, home to several private fishing camps. At one point, the plane passed over a tiny island filled with pelicans. Louisiana's state bird. Booms, which are meant to help block off, retain and skim off the oil, have been placed around the island. But they are, it seems, of little use. In various sections, they have been pushed by wind and water onto the shoreline. Experts say many types of booms only work in calm weather conditions. The past few days have been marked with fierce winds and rain. Booms arc the most common containment method being used so far. But Barry Kohl, an adjunct professor of earth and environmental sciences at Tulane University, in New Orleans, says that even in the best weather conditions, skimming will remove only between 10% and 15% of the oil from the water's surface. Another strategy that officials are trying: spraying dispersants — chemicals used to break up the oil — onto the water's surface, or injecting it thousands of feet below water. The dispersants cause the oil to sink to the bottom of the sea. But experts warn that dispersants will also kill the plankton on which shrimp and fish depend for food. So far, the authorities haven't clarified what chemical dispersants are being used. "We don't know what happens to the oil once it's dispersed, "Kohl says. "You see the stuff to the left?" Panepinto asked, pointing to the long red and orange, sometimes brown, streaks. "That there is the oil. "The crude, which comes out of the wells black, has essentially emulsified, partly from having been exposed to the sunlight for so much time. By the time it reaches the shore, probably in the next day or so, it will likely be brown, like chocolate. Each day, the streaks will become less and less of a sheen, and more of a gummy substance. From the plane, you could see that it was approaching a massive school of flounder. "It's like they're swimming toward death, " Panepinto said. On the other side of what looked like a massive contagion were the shrimpers, lowering a boom onto the water. "What they're doing is 'hopeless' , " Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, says of the shrimpers. Minutes later, the plane was flying over the man-made Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, created nearly half a century ago partly to give large shipping vessels another route to travel between the Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans. Much of the water that flooded New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina came from MRGO. Much of the nearby marsh was destroyed — and with it, one of the last lines of defense for New Orleans against the Gulf's water. If and when the oil hits land, it may kill much of the remaining vegetation that holds the soil together — one more reason New Orleans and folks on dry land are concerned about the spill's effects.

单选题 To be successful in a job interview, you should take
care to appear modestly dressed, avoiding the extremes of too elaborate or too
casual attire. On the positive side, clothes may be a good leveller, putting you
on a bar with other applicants. On the other hand, clothes which are too
informal may convey the impression that you are not serious about the job or
that you may be casual about your work as well as your dress. Clothes which are
too elaborate, too colorful, or too expensive suggest that you don't understand
what behaviour is appropriate for the job. The right clothes at the fight time,
however, gain the respect of the interviewer and his confidence in your
judgement. It may be not true that "clothes make the than", but the first and
often lasting impression of you is determined by the clothes you wear.
Besides care for personal appearance, you should pay close attention to
the manner of speaking. You should speak in a clear voice, loud enough to be
heard without being aggressive or overpowering. Your speech should not can
attention to itself, but it should reveal your individuality and ability.
Obviously you must speak without grammatical mistakes or dialect
differences. You should be prepared to talk knowledgeably about
the requirements of the position you are applying for in relation to your own
experiences and interests. Knowing something about the position enables you to
ask intelligent questions about the work and the requirements for the job. The
interviewer can decide from the questions asked whether you are interested or
knowledgeable. You can comment on your own training, experience, and other
qualifications. The interviewer can determine whether your background and
potential seem to fit the position. The position for which you are applying is
not only the safest: topic for discussion; it is essential that you demonstrate
your understanding of the requirements and your abilities in meeting these
requirements. Finally, you must convey a sense of
self-confidence and enthusiasm for work. You can demonstrate self- confidence by
your manner of speech and dress. You further show it by being prepared for the
interview. In addition, the way you enter the room, sit, look at the
interviewer, and fill out application forms and other papers may express
self-confidence The eagerness with which you discuss the job rather than the
salary may re- veal your enthusiasm for work You may express it through your
questions and comments about working conditions and facilities. And your
previous experience and success will tell the interviewer about your enthusiasm
for work. Self-confidence and enthusiasm for work are valued highly by all
interviewers.
