问答题Read the following text carefully and then translate the underlined segments
into Chinese.I have noticed that children are not even
being school in social graces. At a Sunday brunch, a clown was making balloon
animals for the children. {{U}} {{U}} 1 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}My
friend's daughter, Sarah, stood by me waiting for her turn.{{/U}} The children
grabbed their balloons one by one and ran. {{U}} {{U}} 2
{{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}I was the only adult present who prompted "What do you say"
when the clown handed Sarah her balloon. The clown beamed at us, grateful he had
actually been acknowledged.{{/U}} I don't blame the children,
however. They emulate what they see. {{U}} {{U}} 3 {{/U}}
{{/U}}{{U}}And what they are seeing is a society focused solely on acquisition—be it
another drink in a restaurant or a space on a crowded freeway—without ever
stopping to thank the source.{{/U}} Rude language is now so
common that it is accepted behavior. And I'm not talking about the obviously
blue vocabulary in books and movies, or that damn is considered harmless
compared to what else has become acceptable. I'm referring to inconsiderate word
choice. For example, while discussing a story idea with an editor, a very young
stall member asked if I was the "chick" who had called for information. I said
nothing, knowing that a show of displeasure would have labeled me oversensitive
rather than him rude. {{U}} {{U}} 4 {{/U}}
{{/U}}{{U}}Most people today feel proud to have built a society that treats the
races, sexes, and economic classes more equally ever before. And, yes, we have
made real strides in these areas.{{/U}} But isn't it ironic that these same people
don't find it necessary to say "Excuse me" to an older couple walking very
slowly in front of them, before zooming around the couple? It's
not necessary to provide yet another analysis of the disintegration of the
family or the breakdown of the social fabric or the price of democracy to
explain what has happened to our society. The matter at hand is simply to thank
the next person who provides a helping hand when needed. In a crowded world,
manners are very important. Small, friendly human interactions help ease the
everyday stress of having to hurry, trying to squeeze onto a crowded
thoroughfare, standing in one more line to deal with a clerk of some kind, or
calling a customer service representative for the third time about a mistake on
a bill. Manners make us aware that everything we have derives from a source.
{{U}} {{U}} 5 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}Are we really so pressured that we
cannot stop to observe simple courtesy?{{/U}}

问答题 I was shocked by such a response, and I know that
erroneous views similar to this can be heard everywhere. {{U}} {{U}}
1 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}In the last analysis, these people think that
pollution is just unavoidable in our search for a better, modernized life{{/U}}.
But ladies and gentlemen, can we really believe that mankind will be able to
lead such a life if things are allowed to go on like this? {{U}} {{U}}
2 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}The answer is: definitely not. for people and nature
are so closely related to each other' that the destruction of the harmony
between the two will ultimately lead to human destruction.{{/U}}
Fortunately, we Chinese people have a fine tradition of cherishing nature.
{{U}} {{U}} 3 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}The great philosopher and educator
Confucius once said. "The will of heaven means the order of nature and the troth
means to follow the order of nature, and man should never be separated from the
troth{{/U}}." And now, more and more people are moving towards the realization and
observance of this troth; more and more people have come to be aware of the
importance of protecting mother nature-our habitat; more and more people,
government officials, entrepreneurs and men in the street alike, are pondering
over questions such as: how are environmental laws to be carded out in real
earnest? How can industrial wastes be best disposed of or utilized? {{U}}
{{U}} 4 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}How can we contribute to preserving
biodiversity? What can we do to effectively curb the depletion of the ozone
layer? What should be done to further prevent land degradation and
desertification? In what way can we best handle our garbage and domestic
sewage{{/U}}? People are working hard in order to find answers to these questions,
not only in words but also with actions. {{U}} {{U}} 5 {{/U}}
{{/U}}{{U}}And I'm sure that our efforts in this regard will help Us find
satisfactory, solutions to the existing problems and will eventually lead to
harmony between people and nature.{{/U}}

问答题Read the following text carefully and then translate the underlined segments
into Chinese.That low moaning sound in the background
just might be the founding fathers protesting from beyond the grave. They have
been doing it ever since the republicans announced a "religious war" in the name
of "traditional values". It grew several decibels louder last week when george
bush, at a breakfast of religious leaders, attacked the democrats for failing to
mention god in their doctrines and declaimed that a president needs to believe
in the almighty. What about the constitutional ban on "religious tests" for
public office? The founding fathers would want to know. {{U}} {{U}}
1 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}What about Tom Jefferson's conviction that it is
possible for a nonbeliever to be a moral person, "find incitements to virtue in
the comfort and pleasantness you feel in its exercise"{{/U}}? Even George
Washington must shudder in his sleep to hear the constant emphasis on
"judeo-christian values". {{U}} {{U}} 2 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}It was
he who wrote, "We have abundant reasons to rejoice that in this land...every
person may here worship god according to the dictates of his own
heart."{{/U}} George Bush should know better than to encourage
the theocratic ambitions of the christian right. {{U}} {{U}} 3
{{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}He has claimed—to much ironic scorn—that when he was shot down
during World War II and lay floating in the pacific for four hours, he meditated
on "god and faith and the separation of church and state".{{/U}} But there could
be no better themes for a patriot to address in his final moments. {{U}}
{{U}} 4 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}The "wall of separation" the founding
fathers built between church and state is one of the best defenses freedom has
ever had. Or have we already forgotten why the founding fathers put it up?{{/U}}
They had seen enough religious intolerance in the colonies: quaker women were
burned at the stake in puritan massachusetts; Virginians could be jailed for
denying the bible's authority. They knew Europe had terribly disfigured itself
in a religious war recalled now only by its duration—30 years. {{U}}
{{U}} 5 {{/U}} {{/U}}{{U}}No wonder John Adams once described the
Judeo-Christian tradition as "the most bloody religion that ever existed," and
that the founding fathers took such pains to keep the hand that holds the musket
separate from the one that carries the cross.{{/U}}
