单选题 阅读下面这篇短文,短文后列出7个句子,请根据短文的内容对每个句子做出判断。 {{B}} Privacy Worry May Keep HIV Patients from Therapy{{/B}} Patients infected with HIV are often concerned about the confidentiality of their HIV-positive status. In fact, some patients are so worried that they will actually give up treatment to prevent the release of this information, according to a report published in the August issue of AIDS Care. Dr. Kathryn Whetten-Goldstein and colleagues from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, studied the confidentiality issues of 15 HIV-infected patients from rural North Carolina locations. They were divided into groups designed to explore their attitudes toward, and experiences with, breaches in confidentiality. "The fear of a breach in confidentiality is definitely affecting the care that HIV-infected patients receive," Whetten-Goldstein said. "Most studied patients had experienced or knew someone who had experienced a breach in confidentiality." "Two types of breaches occurred," Whetten-Goldstein noted. "The first was a more obvious type of breach. One example was a nurse who told her child that her patient was HIV-positive out of concern that her child would play with the patient's child." "The other type of breach was more subtle, one that providers might not consider breaches," Whetten-Goldstein explained. "This type of breach involves providers talking about a patient's HIV status without the patient's knowledge of the interaction." "The law allows the sharing of information between providers within the same institution, but patient's consent must be obtained before providers at different institutions can share information," she pointed out. "Patients in the study wanted providers to tell them when they are going to share information with other providers and why it is being done," Whetten-Goldstein said. "They also felt that providers should be punished when a breach occurs." "However, because patients are often reluctant to seek legal action which may further expose their status, they felt that the system should regulate itself," she added.

单选题A Pay Rise or Not? "Unless I get a rise, I'll have a talk with the boss, Henry Manley," George Strong said to himself. George liked his job and he liked the town he lived in, but his wife kept telling him that his pay was not enough to meet the needs of the family. That was why he was thinking of taking a job in Birmingham, a nearby city about 50 miles away. He had been offered a job in a factory there, and the pay was far better. George lived in Wyeford, a medium-sized town. He really liked the place and didn't like the idea of moving somewhere else, but if he took the job in Birmingham, he would have to move his family there. Henry Manley was the manager of a small company manufacturing electric motors. The company was in deep trouble because, among other reasons, the Japanese were selling such things at very low prices. As a result, Manley had to cut his own prices and profits as well. Otherwise he would not get any orders at all. Even then, orders were still not coming in fast enough, so that there was no money for raises (加工资) for his workers. Somehow, he had to struggle along and keep his best workers as well. He sighed. Just then the phone rang. His secretary told him that George Strong wanted to see him as soon as possible. Manley sighed again. He could guess what it was about. George Strong was a very young engineer. The company had no future unless it could attract and keep men like him. Manley rubbed his forehead (前额); his problems seemed endless.

单选题Be Alert to Antimicrobial Resistance The ability of micro-organisms to find ways to evade the action of the drugs used to cure the infections they cause is increasingly recognized as a global public health issue. Some bacteria have developed mechanisms which make them resistant to many of the antibiotics normally used for their treatment (multi-drug resistant bacteria), so pose particular difficulties, as there may be few or no alternative options for therapy. They constitute a growing and global public health problem. WHO suggests that countries should be prepared to implement hospital infection control measures to limit the spread of multi-drug resistant strains and to reinforce national policy on prudent use of antibiotics, reducing the generation of antibiotic resistant bacteria~ An article punished in The Lancet Infectious Diseases on 11 August 2010 identified a new gene that enables some types of bacteria to be highly resistant to almost all antibiotics. The article "has drawn attention to the issue of AMR (antimicrobial resistance) and, in particular, has raised awareness of infections caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria. While multi-drug resistant bacteria are not new and will continue to appear, this development requires monitoring and further study to understand the extent and modes of transmission, and to define the most effective measures for control. Those called upon to be alert to the problem of antimicrobial resistance and take appropriate action include consumers, managers of hospitals, patients, as well as national governments, the pharmaceutical industry, and international agencies. WHO strongly recommends that governments focus control and prevention efforts in the following areas like surveillance for antimicrobial resistance; rational antibiotic use, including , education of healthcare workers and the public in the appropriate use of antibiotics; introducing or enforcing legislation related to stopping the selling of antibiotics without prescription; and strict adherence to infection prevention and control measures, including the use of hand-washing measures, particularly in healthcare facilities. Successful control of multidrug-resistant microorganisms has been documented in many countries, and the existing and well-known infection prevention and control measures can effectively reduce transmission of multi-drug resistant organisms if systematically implemented. WHO will continue to support countries to develop relevant policies, and to coordinate international efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobial resistance will be the theme of WHO's World Health Day 2011.

单选题Neighbor Disputes Disputes with your neighbors can be common, and it is easy to understand why people care about them so much. Having a conflict with a neighbor can make people feel uncomfortable and sometimes unsafe in their own home. Conflicts with neighbors can happen when we have different ideas about our home and what the neighborhood means to us. For example, you may have bought your home because you want a peaceful place to live in, but your neighbor wants a workshop or a place to party. Disputes also sometimes happen when people have to share space with their neighbors. For example, disagreements can occur over changes to fences or trees, or over the use of driveways or other shared areas. No matter how good your neighborhood is, problems can arise quite suddenly. If disputes are not dealt with, they can get worse and worse. However, these challenges can be overcome if every one is sincerely willing to try, and if people feel that it is safe to agree and disagree with each other. Disputes can often be overcome when people can focus on the problem and not the person and work together to find solutions that everyone can live with. Here are some suggestions for preventing and managing neighborhood disputes: Get to know your neighbor. Discuss with your neighbor before you do anything that may affect them. Take your neighbor's concerns seriously, even if they seem like small things to you. When people feel understood, it is easier to work through a problem. Don't believe that the other person knows there is a problem. Often they don't. Sometimes it is a simple misunderstanding. Discuss your methods with friends or family. They may have some useful ideas. Remember to focus on the problem, not the person. Work on what you can change, not what you can't.
