单选题 In order to learn a foreign language well, it is necessary to overcome the fear of making mistakes. If the primary goal of language use is communication, then mistakes are secondary considerations that may be dealt with gradually as awareness of those mistakes increases. On the other hand, students should not ignore their mistakes. The language learner may observe how native speakers express themselves, and how native expressions differ from the way the learner might say them. For example, a Spanish speaker who has been saying 'I do it' to express willingness to do something in the immediate future, could, by interacting with native speakers of English, observe that native speakers actually say 'I'll do it'. The resulting difference can serve as a basis for the student to modify his way of using the present tense in English. But a student who is unwilling to interact in the first place would lose this opportunity to learn by trial and error.

单选题 You get all sorts of demands, and the mark of a good hotel is to supply whatever is asked for without sounding surprised. If a guest asks for rubber glover(手套), you don't ask why. You say, 'No problem. What colour do you want?' There have been some demands which, much as I would have liked to fill, I couldn't. A Japanese businessman, for example, thought the manager of a hotel was like the captain of a ship so he asked me to marry him and the woman he loved. There was one time, however, we did help out. A young man thought that if he asked his girlfriend to marry him at the Ritz she would say yes. He asked us to pt the ring in a cake, and she accepted. Top hotels are used more and more to impress. They are used for doing business. If you've got something to sell, take your clients(客户) to the best hotel where the surroundings are quite helpful. A friend of mine working at Savoy Hotel tells the story about a man who gave him 5 pounds to say ' good morning, Mr. Smith' when he walked through the door with two other men. This he did , and could hear Mr. Smith saying, 'I do wish they would leave me alone at this place.' According to Julian Payne, the most powerful people in any hotel are the porters, who carry bags for hotel guests. 'Porters can do almost anything. They can get you tables at the best restaurants tickets for a popular concert. Don't ask me how they do it or what their deal is because I don't know. Most of them have been there for years. They know more about the history of the hotel and the guests than anyone else. They are invaluable. A head porter will come in even on his day off so he can say hello to someone he remembers visiting the hotel years ago.'

You are right, Simon G. What were you talking about before he left H. Maybe we can call Mr. White to ask Maria: Hello, Simon. Have you seen Billy this afternoon? Simon: No, Maria. Why? Maria: Oh, dear. I can't find him anywhere. I don't know what to do. He should have been back an hour ago. 56 . Simon: Don't worry, Maria. He could have, but he probably didn't. Did anything happen this morning? 57 ? Maria: His birthday party. Simon: Is it possible that you said something to upset him? Maria: I must have. I told him we hadn't received Mr. White's reply to our invitation. Simon: 58 ? Maria: No, he left home right after that. 59 . Simon: Maria, I'm sure there is nothing to worry about. 单选题 Table top magic requires no secret formula. Even the simplest meal will be received with enthusiasm if the table accessories are creative and colorful. No matter what type of dinnerware you own, you can enhance its beauty with a variety of attractive table linens. When selecting a supply of tablecloths, place mats and napkins, choose easy-care or permanentpress fabrics because these fabrics will reduce your workload when washday rolls around. Another consideration is the suitability of your linens for your dining style or the types of entertaining you do. The shape of your table will also dictate the kind of tablecloth you purchase. Circular or rounded tables look best covered with round or oval tablecloths. Square-cornered tables require squares or rectangles. Finally, your table linens should complement your dinnerware. An elegant table setting requires an elegant tablecloth. A setting of stoneware looks best with heavy of colorful fabrics. But sure to take all the necessary measurements before you start shopping for fabric of your choice. It could be embarrassing if your tablecloths are not tong enough to cover the tables. It is equally distressing if your tablecloth is so long that your guests have to watch where they walk.

单选题 A group of scientists rowing toward the center of a lake saw something shocking. They turned back as fast as they could. What had they seen? The lake was boiling! The group was investigating a crater lake in the mountains of St. Vincent. A crater lake is the mouth of a volcano that has been dormant for some time and has filled with water. This particular crater was the tip of a volcano called Soufriere, which erupted last in 1902. Since that time, it had not shown any signs of action. But in the fall of 1971, mountain climbers who had hiked near the lake returned to the lowlands with strange stories. They said the water had turned yellow and was giving off a smell like burnt eggs. A seething fog was rising from the lake's surface. Local scientists rushed to Soufriere to see if this might be the beginning of a new volcanic explosion. They found a huge black mass in the middle of the water. It was a great blob 1,000 feet long and 300 feet wide. Lava had pushed up through the bottom of the lake and formed a new island. The investigators wanted to make sure that the volcano was safe, and that the lava would not overflow into the surrounding countryside. But they could never reach the island to study it, because the lava was so hot that the water around it bubbled and boiled.
