单选题Are you the kind of person who likes staying in unusual places? If the answer is "yes", then try the world's coldest hotel in Jukkasjarvi in the north of Sweden. But go in winter or all you'll find is a pool of water, because the hotel melts every spring! The man who runs the Attic Hall Hotel is Nils Yngve Bergqvist. He built his first ice building for an art exhibition in 1991 and he designed the present hotel—over 200 meters square—himself. It took workmen about two months to pile 1,000 tons of snow onto a wooden base. As the weather got colder, the snow froze and then they removed the base. The whole building and everything in it are made of snow—except for the wooden front door. There's a theatre which Nils uses for a jazz club, a radio station and a large ice bar. As you can imagine, hot drinks are popular with the guests! The rooms have no doors; there's no furniture, no heating and everyone sleeps on ice beds. But the 800 people who stayed at the hotel this winter seemed to like it. If you want to stay in one of the ten ice rooms, it will cost you about £30 a night. You will receive a survival certificate from the manager. When the winter's over, Nils holds his annual contest to predict the day that the hotel will fall. The person that guessed the day correctly last year receives a large painting from an ARTic Hall exhibition. Nils's ice hotel is becoming world-famous and he loves his work.. He's already excited about his next project — an ice hotel that will have more complicated architectural features and, he says, will be bigger and better.

I asked a lady at the front desk ."I am sorry," she said, "You should have booked a room earlier. If you had, it would have been all right. But now every room is full. I wish I could suggest somewhere else but this is the only hotel in town and every room was booked up weeks ago." "What a pity!" I said, "I have been traveling since breakfast and I am very tired." 单选题Will chips one day be planted in our bodies for identification? A US doctor has planted under his skin a computer chip that can send personal information to a scanner(扫描仪), a technology that may someday be widely used as a way to identify people. The chip gives off information which will be scanned by a hand-held reader. The chip is similar to those planted in more than one million dogs, eats and other pets in recent years to track and identify them. The doctor decided to test the chip himself after the Word Trade Center disaster. The dead could have been identified if their names and other important information had been chipped. Officials of the company said they hope to sell the chips to patients with man-made arms or legs or other body parts. The idea is that the chip will provide immediate and correct medical information when it is needed. The information can contain name, telephone number and other information. Or it can send out a message that, when connected to a computer, can call up records. The scanner can read it through clothes from over a meter away. The new product also could be used to control prisoners. Workplaces of great importance may want to use the chips for employees, too. Some parents may consider planting chips in young children or elderly relatives who may be unable to say their names, addresses or telephone numbers. Some medical and technology specialists said the product raises new questions about the relationship between humans and computer technology and could cause problems if it is used against someone's wishes, or if your personal information is read by those who should not see it.
