The chu-type words with the marking fucntion refer to the word chu with the meaning of“not counted”and compound words containing the word chu(除),such as chuqu(除去),chuque(除却),chule(除了),etc.,which are used to mark exclusive sentences, append sentences and progressive sentences.Regarding the origin and evolution of such expressions, this paper argues:First, the exclusive mark of such words was self-derived in Chinese, originated in the Six Dynasties period, mainly evolved from the verb meaning“removal”,and was more often used in Buddhist translations to translate the exclusive mark in Sanskrit, which thus contributed to the later development of this usage;second, such words evolve from exclusive markers to additional markers, which is the result of cooperation and co-construction between the two parties of the dialogue;third, such words have evolved from append marks to progressive markers;fourth, such words are not prepositions when parking exclusivness and appendages, nor is their evolution a grammatical problem.
