Archaeological findings and ancient drawings on stones show that while the practice of regarding the north as the direction of honor was prevalent in the Eastern Han dynasty, images in the ancestral halls of some burial grounds and tombs continued the tradition of regarding the west as the direction of honor, thus resulting in a variegated situation of different directions of honor at the time. This phenomenon tells us that once a tradition has formed,it is full of tenacious vitality to the extent that we can always see the shadow of a tradition no matter what violent revolution happens in the society.
