Chang:Hello,Professor Tsai.Thank you for joining us.To begin, would you please comment on your early work completed in the course of your PhD studies?Tsai:In 1985,I went to the United States for my graduate studies. My supervisor mainly worked on the light–matter interaction, such as characterizing semiconductor materials by analyzing the width and position of Raman spectroscopy peaks to determine their crystallization condition and elemental composition. At that time, there were many senior students working on similar research topics in the same group. If I chose to conduct research in a direction similar to theirs,it would take a long time for me to graduate. After discussing this with my advisor,he encouraged me to explore other new research directions.
