摘要 Death of a Salesman,Arthur Miller's masterpiece,is regarded as one of the most important modern plays.This story is set in the first half of the 20th century in American history.This period witnessed the disillusion of the American dream,the belief that diligence and perseverance will be rewarded by economic prosperity and social stability.Therefore,the tragic end of Willy Loman is closely related to the social background at that time.Besides,Willy's personal weaknesses also contribute a lot to his tragedy.This pa-per aims to explore the causes of Willy Loman from the social and personal perspective.
