Objective:To explore the effect of massage and traction in treating cervical headache and analyze its mechanism.Methods:Fifty-six patients (22 male and 34 female with an average age of 46 years ranged from 19 to 65 years) with cervical headache were divided randomly into experimental group and control group. In experimental group,twenty-eight patients (12 male and 16 female with an average age of 44 years ranged from 19 to 60 years) were treated with massage and traction, and in control group,28 patients (10 male and 18 female with an average age of 48 years ranged from 22 to 65 years) were treated with single traction. The ache and tender degree, and therapeutic efficacy were observed.Mechanism of the two methods was analyzed. Results:All the index in the experimental group were better than those in the control group(P<0.05).According to the standard of Clinical Principles of Treatment on Cervical Spondylopathy with Herbs and New Medicine, 22 cases were cured,3 cases improved dramatically,2 cases improved and 1 case ineffective in experimental group, the totally effective rate was 96.4%.13 cases cured,6 cases improved dramatically,3 cases improved and 6 cases ineffective in control group. The totally effective rate was 78.6%.There was a significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion:Massage and traction in treating cervical headache provides a simple method with a high successful rate, satisfactory effect, scientific mechanism. This method can be easily popularized.
