抗战时期,陕甘宁边区政府通过制定有效的教育方针、建立完善的管理机制以及采取弹性的学习制度,促进边区社会教育的蓬勃发展。其所展现的许多行之有效的经验对当代西部地区的成人教育具有重要的启示和借鉴作用:西部成人教育应正确认识自己的教育现状,采取灵活多样的教育机制,并以终身学习为指导理念。
