摘要
文章由习语和等效翻译的概述入手,从"等效"的角度分析了杨宪益夫妇《红楼梦》英译本中对习语翻译采用的方法。讨论部分阐述了习语翻译要力争隐含意义、形象和形式上的对等,而这三者中又以隐含意义的对等为前提。文章结论部分提出习语的翻译要尽量完美地再现原文习语的文化内涵,在读者理解上达到"等同"的效果。
Taking the example of Gladys Yang s English version of "Hong Lou Meng",this paper analyzes the methods of idiom translation on the basis of equivalent effect principleIt expounds that the idiom transition should focus on the equivalence of meaning,image and formIt concludes that the expression in the target language should convey roughly the same meaning as the idioms in the source language.
