摘要
新世纪来临之际,回顾以往,尤其是过去10年,笔者为符号学研究取得的成就感到由衷高兴,同时又深感忧虑,因为在符号学的发展中存在着严重问题.主要的是:符号学到目前为止,还没有一个完整的体系,还没有成为一门独立学科,在它的性质、范围和研究方法上各派意见大相径庭,还存在试图以符号学包揽一切、理论不联系实际、各对立观点互不交锋而各行其事、定义和分类繁琐等问题.笔者认为符号学应该是在社会人文科学范围内的一种跨学科方法论,并以辩证唯物主义、结构主义等哲学思想及以索绪尔和皮尔斯的符号学基础理论为指导.笔者同意艾施巴赫的建议:发展一门基本的、批评的符号理论;发展作为一种运用中的社会性的符号理论;发展一门历史的符号理论,使它认识自己的根源、成就和错误.
Looking back to the past development and looking forward to the future development of semiology, the writer of this paper is at the same time delighted at its achievement and worried about some serious problems existing in the process such as : Semiology has not yet established itself as an independent course of study, not yet formed a complete system of theory and semiologists have not yet reached an agreement on the nature, scope and methodology of the study; besides, there are such problems as diametrically opposite opinions existing between major schools yet no contention between them, attempts to cover all branches of study by semiotics, theory being separated from practice, intricacies existing in definition and typology etc.He thinks that semiology should be an interdisciplinary methodology applied to social and humane studies and that the philosophical ideas of dialectical materialism and structuralism and basic theories of Saussure and Pierce should be adopted as the guidance to the study. He appreciates and supports Eschbach's proposals: A foundamental and critical semiology, an applicable and social semiology, and a historical semiology for recognizing the origin, the achievement and the drawbacks in the development of semiology should be established.
