With the profound influence from British school of culture studies, Fiske's research has focused on the subjective position of the audience, emphasizing the productivity and creativity of the audience. The research has led to the formation of Fiske's productive audience theory. This paper will elaborate the contents of the theory, as well as its impact on the traditional studies of audience and how it has been criticized.
