摘要
中国人文学术传统或文学研究传统的变革,不是简单地以新换旧、以西化中或以科学性排斥审美性,而是应在诸对抗性要素或可变性与不可变性之间,维持一种“必要的张力”。作为中国比较文学开拓者的钱钟书,在理论和实践两个方面都为文学研究的现代转型提供了有益启示。本文结合钱钟书的观点,集中探讨了“过去的现在性”、“文学研究的‘科学化’及其限度”这两个命题,并通过实例简要说明了钱钟书在文学研究中“维持难以维持的张力”的能力以及在中西会通的语境下推动旧学新变的良苦用心。
The changes that take place in the tradition of Chinese humanistic studies or literary studies should not take place simply by replacing the old with the new, the Chinese with the Western, or Beauty with Science, but by maintaining a essential tension between all sorts of antitheses or among all changeable and unchangeable elements. Ch'ien Chung-shu, the pioneer of Comparative literature in China, has in theory and practice provided us with invaluable instructions on modern transformation in literary studies. Following his points of view, this article discusses the significant topics, i.e.“the presentness of the past” and “scientific systematization and its limitations in literary studies”. It exemplifies and illustrates Ch'ien Chung-shu's ability in maintaining the difficult tension in literary studies and his painstaking efforts in improving East/West dialogue and the transformation of our old schools of knowledge and learning.
