BACKGROUND:The morbidity of stress urinary incontinence in women increases with the advance of age.The prevalence rate is different from country to country. There are few researches being conducted on urinary incontinence in China so that there is no uniform definition, diagnostic standard and design.OBJECTIVE:To carry out epidemiological investigation on female stress urinary incontinence in order to provide accurate information for further research on it.DESIGN:Epidemiological investigation on female stress urinary incontinence;literature review.PARTICIPANTS and INTERVENTIONS:The epidemiological research data on women suffering from stress urinary incontinence of different countries were analyzed.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Morbidity of female stress urinary incontinence;relevant factors;assessment of quality of life (QOL).RESULTS:The prevalence rate of urinary incontinence is related to the different definition of it.The investigation methods also influence the morbidity. The prevalence rate drew from simple questionnaire is much higher than that drawing from combining questionnaire and physical examination.CONCLUSION:Risk factors for urinary incontinence include age, sex, childbirth, obesity and menopause and so on.The QOL will be affected in women with severe urinary incontinence.
