摘要 English now is said to be an international language. When we say this, do we really understand what it means? Actually, it seems extremely difficult to comprehend various sorts of logical deductions stemming from the current state of the English language. In this presentation, I would like to discuss how Japan’s English language teaching (ELT) is reacting to this characterization of English. While I outline primary and secondary situations, I will focus on college level issues that have emerged out of our understanding of English as an international language. The concept of intercultural literacy will also be explored in terms of language awareness education. English now is said to be an international language.
