被赞誉为晚清"重臣名儒"的张之洞,在中国近代史上具有重要影响。他把兴学育才作为强国安邦的重大举措,一生与教育结下了不解之缘。其改造旧式书院、创设各类新式学堂、派遣留学生、构建中国近代教育体系的举动,开我国近代教育之先河,堪称中国近代教育的先驱。
Zhang Zhi-dong, famed for attaching importance to intellects in the late Qing Dynasty, exerts a great influence in the modern history of China.He advocates the significant measure of strengthening the nation is to set up schools for personnel training and in his life he has done a lot with education.He remakes old-fashioned academy of learning and establishes some new schools and sends students studying abroad.All these actions initiate the system of Chinese modern education.Hence he is referred to as the forerunner of Chinese modern education.
