Objective: To study the effect and significance Gao Yuan Kang capsules on lung function changes of people who swiftly enter plateau. Method: 80 soldiers who entered plateau from plain by air first time were divided randomly into the experimental group (EG) and the control group (CG). The EG were taken the Gao Yuan Kang capsules before exposing to high altitude for three days (2 pills/time, tid). The CG was given the placebo. Lung function was examined before, and after 1 day and 3 days high altitude. The lung function of subjects and the incidence of AMS (Acute mountain sickness) among them were compared between the test and control group. Results: A total of index of lung function in the 2 groups at high altitude were higher than that in plain, but the indexes of lung function of EG enhanced more prominently than that of CG (CG P<0.05~P<0.01,EG P<0.05~P<0.001); the AMS incidence of EG was prominently lower than that of CG (EG 5%, CG 32.5%, P<0.001). Conclusion: Gao Yuan Kang capsules can prominently improve lung function of people who swiftly enter plateau and reduce the incidence of AMS through boosting adaptability to plateau environment.
