This paper deals with the genus Thripsaphis Gillette from China, which includes 2 species and 2 subspecies. Among them, Thripsaphis balli (Gillette) is first recorded from China and the 2 subspecies are new to science. A key to the species and subspecies is given. The type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica, Beijing.1. Thripsaphis cyperi wuling shanensis Zhang &. Zhang, subsp. nov. (Fig.1 )Apterous viviparous female: brown in life. In mounted specimens antennal segments 1 and 2 pale, the others black, legs and cornicles pale brown. Dorsum of body coarse, covered with granules, venter of abdomen with denticles. Hairs on body short, pointed, hairs on head and abdomen as Fig. 1 a, d. 8th abdominal tergite extending backward, covering anal plate and cauda, hairs on it irregularyly arranged in a curve in good distance from the posterior margin, disc of the same tergite without hairs. Eyes without ocular tubercles. Antennae as Fig. 1b, 3rd segment with 3 secondary sensoria, with fringes. Rostrum short, not reaching midcoxae, ultimate rostral segment with 2-4 accessory hairs. Cauda knobbed, with 10 hairs. Anal plate bilobed, with 11-14 hairs. 2 rudimentary gonapophyses present, each with 6 hairs.Measurements in mm: length of body 2.056, width 0.730; antennae 0.887, segments I -VI : 0.056, 0.052, 0.322, 0.136, 0.134, 0.107+0.080; ultimate rostral segment 0.049; cauda 0.090;hind femur 0.308, hind tibia 0.507, 2nd hind tarsal joint 0.126.Holotype: apterous viviparous female, No. Y4340-1-1-2, Hebei Province: County Xinglong, 800m, Sept, 11, 1983, on Cyperus sp. Tian Shibo. Paratypes: 2 apterous viviparous females, ibid. This species is very similar to cyperi (Walker), but antennae shorter than 1/2 of body (latter: longer than); 8th abdominal tergite covering cauda (not covering in latter). 2. Thripsaphis ossiannilssoni hebeiensis Zhang & Zhang, subsp. nov. (Fig.2)Apterous viviparous female: brown in life, with wax filaments. In mounted specimens antennae black, legs brown, cornicles pale brown. Wax plates well developed as Fig. 2 a, d, n. Hairs on body short, pointed, 8-10 marginal hairs on 8th abdominal tergite placed in a curve very close to posterior margin, disc of same tergite with 10-12 hairs. Eyes without ocular tubercles. Antennae as Fig. 2b, 3rd segment without secondary sensoria. Rostrum not reaching midcoxae, ultimate rostral segment with 4 accessory hairs. Cauda knobbed, extending outward, bearing 20-24 hairs. Anal plate bilobed, with 5 or 6 hairs.Measurements in mm: length of body 2.122, width 1.602;antennae 0.680, segments I - VI : 0.065, 0.063, 0.161, 0.095, 0.113, 0.123+0.060; ultimate rostral segment 0.060; cauda 0.090;hind femur 0.275, hind tibia 0.384,2nd hind tarsal joint 0.094.Holotype: apterous viviparous female, No. Y4340- 1-2-1, Hebei Province: County Xinglong, 800m, Sept, 11, 1983, on Cyperus sp. Tian Shibo. Paratypes: 2 apterous viviparous females, ibid. This species is very close to ossiannilssoni Hille Ris Lambers, but wax plates well developed, head, thorax and abdomen with spinal, pleural and marginal plates on each segment; in latter only present in some bases of hairs and 7th and 8th abdominal tergites; legs brown (plae in latter).
