摘要
龙是汉英两种语言中较常见的意象。由于两种语言有着不同的文化背景 ,龙的意象分别被赋予了不同的象征意义。中华文化里的“龙”是“权威、力量、吉祥”的象征 ,而西方文化里的“dragon”却是“凶残、邪恶、怪物”的象征。在英汉互译时 ,如何对龙的意象进行妥善的处理 ,是值得探讨的问题。
Dragon,a common image in both the Chinese and English languages,is given different symbolic meanings in both languages owing to the different cultural backgrounds.In the Chinese culture,the dragon symbolizes power,strength and fortune,while in the English culture savage,evil and monster.How to deal properly with the image of dragon is a worthwhile question in English-Chinese translation and vice versa.
