JiLin province, situated in the central part of northeast China, plays an important role in researching both the origin of prehistoric jades and cultural exchange in this area.According to incomplete statistics, there are total 49 prehistoric jades unearthed from 19 different sites, and only three sites, known as Zuojiashan,Xiduanliangshan and Yaojingzi, had been excavated several years ago.The jades total 18,collected in Jubaoshan site, form the group largest in number known so far in Jilin province. The main types of jades are axe, adze, chisel, arrowhead, dagger,bi disc, ring, bead, elliptic and semicircle jades.A comparative study with related remains shows that the prehistoric jades of JiLin province could be divided into three phrases, the original dated from about 7500-6500BP,the second and third phrases dated from about 5500-4000BP.Obviously,the jades unearthed from bothJiLin and Heilongjiang provinces have lots of common characteristics, and differentiate from the jades excavated from west Liaoning and southeast Inner Mongolia.
