The thermal degradation of CO_2—epoxide copolymers was studied by MS and TG measurements and found to involve both 'unzipping' and random chain scission processes. Such processes were diminished to some extent by either enhancement of the molecular weight, removal of the residual catalysts,' end capping', and introducing structural units other than alkylene and carbonate groups. The thermostability of the copolymers was thus improved and might satisfy ordinary processing and applications.
