Certain physical properties of wood such as dc-resistance, and de-electric constant are measured. From the correlation of the physical quantities withthe moisture content of wood is derived the moisture content (%) of wood. Onbasis of these researches, different testing methods and different testing instru-ments are developed. Understanding the principle of various testing methods andthe scope of their application as well as effective control of the factors influencingtheir accuracy are all necessary in order to obtain satisfactory results. Up to now, lots of results have been obtained in researches on the wood moisture contenttesting. The testing instruments so developed have been applied to production infactories. The condenser type and resistor type testing instruments for wood mois-ture content have been being used. Lk-1 control system in drying room is devel-oped by the Rcsearch Institute of Wood Industry of the Chinese Academy of For-estry. The system can determine the moisture content of check board in the stack, and can control thc process of drying by feedback, thus shortening the drying timeand reducing energy consumption and wood degradation. With its effect beingproved, its use is extended. The theoretical research on wood moisture contenttesting is not enough in depth, and the relation between all factors have not beenwell clarified. So wood moisture content testing is still a priority researchsubject. Henceforwards, with increasing depth of theoretical research, develop-ment of electronic and computer technology, promotion of wood processing in-dustry, the testing technique of wood moisture content will be continually im-proved and the functions of testing instruments will be gradually perfected. Its accu-racy and level of intelligence will be upgraded step by step.
