Ruins of two cities of the Qin-Han era lying to the northwest and northeast of the county seat of Guangling underwent excavation from May to July 1992. Twenty-two tombs were opened up, yielding nearly three hundred pieces of funerary objects. Pottery as the majority of objects break into two cate-gories: everyday utensils such as jar, vase, basin, bow, plate, eared cup and so on, and artifacts for mortuary purpose including a variety of models like granary, earthen, well, pigpen, tower, animal, etc. . The tombs can be divided into three phases. The first phase is characterized by an earthen verti-cal catacomb of the mid-Western Han dynasty. The second features the coexistence of earthen verticalcatacomb and ramped catacomb of the late Western Han and early Eastern Han. The last phase includes mainly the brick-chamber tombs dated back to the mid-Eastern Han dynasty.
