Study on the partition between solid and liquid phases and the morphological distribution and transformation of trace heavy metals Cu, Zn, Pb, and Cd in the water body of changjiang estuary have been done. It was found that about 90% of Cu, Pb and Zn existed on suspended solids and converged into the estuary in solid state, among which Cd occupied about 35% in solid state and dominated in soluble state. On suspended solids, Cu, Zn and Pb mainly occurred in residual or Fe/Mn binding form, and the ratio of these two forms were Cu 40% and 29%, both 40% for Pb, and Zn 37% and 38%. Cd existed as 17% in exchangeable form and 30% in carbonate binding form. Variation of environmental factors, such as temperature, pH value and salinity etc. may have different effects on morphology of the above elements and transformation of solid-liquid phase, especially for Cd.
