We observed the compression process of dog's abdomen by high-speed cinematography, measured the change of the blood梖luid pressures in thoracaorta, abdominoaorta, inferior vena cava and hep-atoportal vein, and computed the deformation of liver by high -speed flash radiography and image processing during the impact on the dog's abdomen. The experimental results showed that the rapid inward displacement of the abdomen wall is the primary response of abdomen to the impact and the principal factor responsible for the transfer of energy into the body, and causes blood ?fluid pressures in the vascular system to increase sharply. The blood -fluid pressure in hepatoportal vein is three times as high as that out hepatoportal vein; therefore, blood can rush to the liver. Moreover, it is evident that liver injury is mainly an indirect result of the impact on abdomen. A brief discussion on the biomechanical mechanism of liver injury is presented.
