A hermeneutic study of literary translation helps to gain a better understanding of the identity of a literary translator, of the nature, the translation standard and the complicated hermeneutic process of literary translation. Friedrich D. E. Schleiermacher's reconstruction principle requires the translator to put himself into the shoes of the author for an objective representation of the source text, while Wilhelm Dilthey's concept of experience asks for his empathy with the original. However, it is Hans-Georg Gadamaer's principles of effective-history and fusion of horizons that acknowledge the necessity of reading one's own history into his understanding of a text. A translator's recreation in target language is thus realized through conversing with the source text.
