摘要
欧·亨利的《警察与赞美诗》这篇小说真实而深刻地反映了 2 0世纪初的社会现实 ,是洞察当时社会生活的一面镜子。那是一个物欲横流的精神荒原 ,其主要特征是人性的丧失。本文主要从以下三个方面阐述这一批判主题 :人性的危机 ,人性的回归和人性回归的失败。这充分说明 ,在欧·亨利的眼里 ,当时的社会虽是一个人类社会 ,然而却是一个丧失人性的社会。
The short story The Cop and The Anthem by O.Henry can serve as a mirror of the early 20 th -century social reality-a materially rich land yet a spiritually waste land,characterized by the loss of human nature,which is the subject matter of this article.This article will be elaborated in the following three aspects:the crisis of human nature,the call of human nature,and the failure of the restoration of human nature,which suggests that the then society was a human world without human nature.
