假官为非正规的官员,暂时权代而已,事罢则撤,不可转为真官,属于编制外的官员;守官为试用官,可转为真官,属于编制内的官员。假官战国时已存在,自春秋战国秦汉以来,在名分上的运用十分广泛。到汉末假官作为一种制度已不存在,但其中假佐、假司马、假侯等称谓保留了下来,并转为常官,意义已不同于前。守官在战国时已存在,分为试守和守缺两种,此外,有时守官与本官可以同置。
An acting official serves as a temporary substitute who will be removed soon. He is unauthorized. While a duty magistrate is on probation and therefore authorized. Acting officials were inexistent in late Han Dynasty, but such titles as Acting assistant or Acting Minister remained and changed to normal officials. Duty magistrate can sometimes be placed equally with presiding officials.
