Objective:To estimate the security of GAP Chinese medicinal breeds of Enshi Prefecture. Methods: Analyses on heavy metals in officinal part and plant soils of 12 species GAP breeds in Enshi Prefecture were conducted to study the content and distribution of heavy metals as Pb,As,Cd,Cr and Hg in Chinese medicinal herbs. Results:Cr is the main polluting elements in the Chinese medicinal herbs with 25% exceeding the permissible limits of relevant standard, in the next place with 8. 3% exceeding standard of Cd,Pb,has one GAP breed exceed standard. The other elements are in safe range of those Chinese herbs. Conclusion:The security of 12 indigenous GAP Chinese medicinal breeds of Enshi Prefecture is very high and they can meet the standards of Chinese exported relevant medical plants; while the problem that some special elements surpass the norms should be further discussed.
