The culture in the North and South of China in the Xianqin Dynasty did not merge and had two distinct developing tendencies. The culture in the North was ethics-oriented while the culture in the South was tinged with strong witchcraft. Accordingly, as for the aesthetic appreciation of the beauty of women, people in Central Plains and Chu Kingdom had different aesthetic tastes and ideals. The former attached the importance to the virtue while the latter preferred appearance. Both these two patterns structured the original framework for the aesthetic appreciation of virtue of ancient Chinese women.
