摘要
基础研究是一切科学活动的基础,是实现由科学发现到科学技术发明转化的最重要环节,也是实现由科学技术到生产力转化的基础。与世界各国不同的是,美国的基础研究主要由其研究型大学来承担,并取得丰硕成果。本文力图以历史发展的眼光对基础研究在美国研究型大学的兴起和发展过程予以考察。
Basic research is the foundation of all scientific activities, the most important step in the transformation from discoveries to technologies, and also the foundation for the realization from technologies to productivities. Basic research in the U.S. is mostly taken by the research universities, and has already gained plentiful fruits, which is a unique phenomenon in the world. The article reviews the rise and development of basic research in the US with a historic vision.
