Vapor-Liquid equilibrium data for the binary systems of Benzene-Dimethylformide(DMF), Benzene-Thiophene and Thiophene-DMF as well as the ternary system of Benzene-Thiophene-DMF and the quarternary system of Benzene-Thiophene-Water-DMF were determinded at 101. 3 kPa by a modified Rose-Williams equilibrium still.The VLE data were correlated by three thermodynamic models, which can be applied to the engineering design.The relative volatilities of Benzene and Thiophene were compared based on the VLE data of binary, ternary and quarternary systems with DMF of aqueous DMF as a solvent.The results show that the relative volatility of benzene and thiophene in the presence of aqueous DMF as a solvent is obviously the highest, Therefore, separating the trace of thiophene from benzene by extractive distil lation with aqueous DMF as a solvent has a better effect.
