“Global minimum essential requirements in medical education” (GMER) was established by the Institute for International Medical Education (IIME) , which was established in 1999 and consisted of members from all over the world. No matter where the medical students were trained in the world, the GMER should be reached by all of the graduates. The GMER includes 6 domains, namely, professional values, attitudes, behavior and ethics, scientific foundation of medicine, communication skills, clinical skills, population health and health systems, information management and critical thinking, with 61 items. Eight China leading medical schools cooperated with lIME and all of the 6th grade year 7- year program students participated the assessment of GMER through multiple - choice questions, objective structured clinical examination and observation. Results and feedback were provided to all of the 8 schools, showing some areas that is strength, borderline or needing improvement. Experiences of the experiment implementation will benefit the revision of GMER and the spreading of GMER in the world.
