Under the background of Beijing's globalization, this study empirically analyzes the spatial patterns of FDI in Beijing in the 1990s through the grids system and generalizes the correlation between FDI's quantity and location. The 3 different spatial patterns of FDI in goods-producing industry and service industry show the impact of the industry type on the investment location and so the concept of industry orientation in the spatial policy design for attracting FDI is propounded, which suggests that the productive condition is the key factor for goods-producing industry and the service object is for service industry. The spatial patterns of FDI in Beijing in the 1990s reflect the Metropolitan Globalization Theory based on the Extension Model.
