美国南方文学历史悠久,特色鲜明,不仅佳作如潮,巨匠叠出,而且蕴藏着强有力的规范作用和无穷尽的创新机制。面对如此强大的传统,斯泰伦在影响的焦虑中开拓进取,显示出强力诗人的风范,以坚忍不拔的毅力挣脱了传统的束缚,超越了对经典的简单模仿,实现了对南方文学传统的继承和创新,确立了独特风格,为南方文学的更新和繁荣作出了重要的贡献。
With a long history and distinct features, American Southern literature not only has produced a myriad of masterpieces and masters, but also conditions and inspires later works. Confronting so great the Southern tradition and experiencing the anxiety of its influence, William Styron keeps forging ahead and opens up new grounds in his literary creation, displaying the demeanor of a strong poet. With indomitable efforts, he has broken loose the bondage of the tradition, transcended the superficial imitation of classics. In inheriting the virtues of and initiating innovation in the literary tradition, Styron has established a unique literary style, making great contribution to the renovation and orosneriy of Southem literature.
