During routine operation, corrosion products and other impurities are transported from the secondary balance of plant to the steam generators. A significant fraction of this material can be expected to remain in the steam generators, accumulating as sludge and fouling on the top of the tubesheet and tube support plates, free span tube surfaces, crevices between the tube support plates and the tube walls. As the plant continues to operate these sludge and fouling, if left in place, will continue to increase in thick- ness and become harder and less permeable, that may lead to the steam generator degradation and affected its performance, rIhis paper describes sludge and fouling formation and endangerment, sludge and fouling physicochemical processes, tubesheet and tube bundle cleaning approach , sludge and fouling loading and cleaning.
