Objective To consummate the facture of rabbit model bearing VX2 liver tumor ulteriorly, compare the image performance of CT, MRI, DWI and DSA in rabbit bearing VX2 liver tumor and evaluate the superiority of each image check-up for the tumor show. Methods New Zealand white rabbits were embeded with VX2 tumor particles in the left lobe of the liver in the former experiments while which were injected into the lobe in the latter experiments. CT scanning and MR imaging including DWI sequence was performed in all of the rabbits 2 weeks later, then the super-selected transcatheter hepatic arterial DSA were performed. Results The successful rate of implantation was 66. 7% (8/12) in formal experiments and 100.0% (24/24) in latter experiments. The tumor was demonstrated as low density mass on plain CT, unconspicuous enhanced on arterial phase image, well discernible from the surrounding liver tissue. MR images showed the tumor as low signal on T1WI, little high signal on T2WI (EPI) and marked high signal on DWI. DSA demonstrated the isolated tumor in the left lobe of the liver supplied by the enlarged arteries. Conclusion The rabbit model with VX2 liver tumor is suitable for interventional experimental study. The inject method is superior to the embed method. CT and MRI (T1WI/ T2WI(EPI)/DWI) have benefits to the image evaluation of tumor with their own superiority, especially the T2WI(EPI) and DWI. DSA can show the supplying arteries of the tumor clearly.
