The working principles, structural characteristics, and applications of the equipment for continuous non-explosive excavation of rock——the Wirtgen open-air miner, are introduced in the paper. Aiming at the construction of through cuts and down-to-ground parts of tunnels, the paper deals with the features of it such as in high efficiency, environmental protection, and great cutting accuracy, all of which enable it to have wide applications in underground and earth-stone works, and to be worth energetically popularizing.
