摘要
This paper distinguishes between Mencius and Xunkuang on four interrelated levels: how Mencius and Xunkuang respectively comprehend the following concepts and their relationship, such as “heaven”, “human” and their relationship; “mind”, “human nature” and their relationship; “the kingly way” and “the way of might”; “to foster human’s temperament” and “to rectify human’s temperament”? At the same time, the paper investigates a certain opposite but mutually complementary relationship between the two Confucians, who devote themselves to “following the examples of sages and extolling the kingly way”, and thus seeking the standard of the universal “Good”. Finally, the paper tries to solve the thinking tension contained in the argumentation of the Confucian school, whose aim is established by Confucius as the idea that “it is not Tao but man himself, that promote and develop human”.
