A distinctive Cambrian trilobite collected from the lower part of Hsuchuang Formation at Laoyingshan, Caijiagang, near Huainan, northern Anhui Province is assigned as a new species belonging to a new genus classified under an undetermined family. The trilobite is named Huaiaspis huainanensis gen. et sp. nov. During Cambrian Period, the fossil locality lay on the southern margin of North China Platform. The material, on which the new taxon is based, includes 6 exoskeletons and more than 15 cranidia and pygidia, all preserved in reddish brown shale near the bottom of Hsuchuang Formation. The formation of the study area is probably of Hsu- chuangian age as used in North and Northeast China. The new form is a blind polymerid with cephalon and pygidium largely effaced, belonging to opisthoparian type. The new trilobite has a thorax bearing 14 segments and a small pygidium with a large axis that is poorly defined and not segmented. Its glabella is bell-shaped, defined obscurely by dorsal furrows that can be only observed under oblique light. Its fixigena is moderately wide, separated by well defined facial suture from a broad librigena that extends rearward into a large genal spine.
