Objective:To research the effect of acupuncture on the quality of ulcer healing (QOUH)in gastric ulcer rats. Methods:Rat model of chrouic gastric ulcer was induced by acetic acid.40 healthy SD rats were divided into the normal control group, the model group, the acupuncture group and the westerns medicine group, the combining acupuncture and the westerns medicine gruop. Except the normal control group, the others rats were treated with 0.9% NaCl, acupuncture, westerns medicines, combining acupuncture and westerns medicines respectively. The changes of contents of epidermal growth factor (EGF) in serum, thickness of regenerated mucosa, number of inflammatory cells and area of gastric mucosa were examinedwas observed quantitatvaly. Results:Condition of ulcer healing of all treatment groups are better than of the model group.Acupuncture can decrease signifently area of gastric mucosa, lesion number of inflammatory cells. The contents of EGF in serum and thickness of regenerated mucosa were siginifcant increased than westerns medicing group, the changes of detecting of combining acupuccture and westerns medicing group are more apparently than singal acupuncture, but level of EGF is no difference from sham- operated. Conclusion:Acupuncture can relieve the stress lesion of gastric mucosa possibly in habiting the lesion of free radical in gastric mucosa, area of gastric mucosa, number of inflammatory cessl and improving EGF in serum, thickness of regenerated mucosa. This is possibly material base for acceleration ulcer healing and improving the quality of ulcer health resulting in preventing from ulcer resurrence.
