Objective To investigate the characteristics of peripheral blood T - lymphocyte subsets in the patients with HBV infected and explore their relations with the disease state. Methods 75 patients with chronic HBV infected and twenty healthy individuals as controls were enrolled in our study. Flow cytometry was used to detect the peripheral blood T - lymphocytes. Results Compared with normal controls, the carriers and the patients with chronic hepatitis B, the numbers of lymphocytes decreased in cirrhosis. The number of CD^4+ T cells, CD^8+ T cells decreased in the patients with chronic hepatitis B and the cirrhosis compared with the normal and the carriers. Conclusion There is an imbalance in peripheral blood T - lymphocyte subsets and turbulence in cellular immunity in the patients with chronic hepatitis B, the absolute number of CD^4 + T cells, CD^8+ T cells and NK cells in the patients with chronic HBV infection decrease significantly and are correlated with the disease progression.
