The transcription factor nuclear factor- kappa B (NF-κB) has been proposed as a critical bridge between oxidant stress and gene expression. Exposure of cells to inflammatory, infectious, or other stressful stimuli results in release and translocation of NF-κB into the nucleus. And activation of the transcription factor NF-κB has been suggested to participate in inflammatory disorders, such as diabetes and its complications. Recent studies showed that activated NF-κB presented in different tissues of patients with a new onset or a long history of diabetes, and an anti-inflammatory action through a reduction of NF-κB activation might be beneficial to diabetic patients.
