In this paper, we describe a portable optical voltage transducer (NXVT) for in-site live calibration of voltage measurement devices on transmission systems up to 500 kV. We explain the rationale for such a calibration device, describe the construction of the portable system, and provide results of laboratory trials and some field experience. Finally, we describe the on-going plans for use of this calibration system in a large Canadian electric utility.
